Chapter 1 The Place of Prayer in the Process
As we have walked this path, one principle has been paramount to us and that is the place of prayer in this journey. We have from the beginning made sure we prayed and had good prayer coverage from our pastor friends, elders, and friend. This is one reality that the internet has made much easier. Facebook was just becoming a real craze when this journey began. I made sure to let my intercessors know what was going on through Facebook, emails, calls to my friends and pastor colleauges, etc.
There is a old saying from a commercial years ago. In the ad, the statement was made, "Don't leave home without it!" There implication was that their product was so good, you should not go without it or your day would be unproductive. I say this same thing about dealing with any trial such as cancer, "Prayer: Don't leave home without it!"
Make sure you are covered everyday and not just your own prayers. Add to your prayers those of others you trust. We always made it a point of keeping our intercessors aware of what we were doing on the mission field. We sent out a monthly sometimes bi-monthly newsletter. We had many tell us how they appreciated how we kept them up to date.
It does not have to be long, in fact, it should not be long. People like or not do not like to read long emails or newsletters. They function better in our fast paced society when the correspondence is short with bulletted prayer points. Accomodate those you trust so much. Let them know what you are going through, when the next test or chemo treatment is, what your concerns are, etc.
They cannot pray for you if they do not know what you are going through. Learn to be vulnerable. IT helps them connect with you. People cannot pray if they do not to pray or what to pray for. So again I say, "Prayer: Don't leave home without it!"
